Prof. Porkodi N
HoD (Civil)
Civil engineering is a professional discipline focused on the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment. This includes public works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewage systems, pipelines, and structural components of buildings and railways. It is traditionally divided into several sub-disciplines and is considered the second-oldest engineering field after military engineering. The profession distinguishes non-military engineering from military engineering and spans both public sector roles in municipal and federal government agencies and private sector positions in firms ranging from local businesses to global Fortune 500 companies. The field of civil engineering applies physical and scientific principles to address society’s problems. Its history is deeply tied to the development of physics and mathematics, reflecting advances in these areas over time. Due to its broad scope, civil engineering encompasses specialized sub-disciplines and draws from knowledge in structures, materials science, geography, geology, soils, hydrology, environmental science, mechanics, project management, and other related fields.
Department Vision
